Sustainable Mining and Green Metallurgy
Introduction
Minerals and metals are essential for modern society and for the transition towards a fossil-free and resource-efficient economy. At the same time, mining and metals production need to reduce their environmental impact, use resources more efficiently and develop safer and more sustainable production processes.
Sweden and Brazil are both major mining nations with strong research, industrial capabilities and long-standing collaboration in sustainable mining. By combining expertise, technologies and industrial experience, the two countries can accelerate the development and application of more sustainable solutions across the mining and metals value chain.
Our focus
The focus is on sustainable mining and green metallurgy, addressing challenges across the mining and metals value chain.
Key areas include reducing mining waste, circular use and recovery of critical metals and materials, dam safety, remediation, fossil-free mining and more sustainable metallurgical processes. The collaboration also builds on established work in areas such as digital mining, sustainable water management, rock mechanics and seismicity.
What we do
We connect mining and metals companies, researchers, technology providers and innovation actors in Sweden and Brazil around concrete research and innovation challenges.
Through technical exchange, workshops, matchmaking and joint project development, we bring together complementary expertise and create opportunities for new bilateral R&D and innovation initiatives.
